the story of flow
Flow truly began as an extension of ridl. We aimed to create a cohesive and beautiful set to complement your bar collection.
Starting with the same curves as ridl, the initial approach featured a top profile with flowing edges. The side profile appeared too static, failing to capture the fluidity and dynamic nature of ridl.
David introduced a surprising design inspiration - a cut up pool noodle, taped into a curl. While unconventional, this idea helped to resolve the stagnant appearance of the earlier design, bringing a new sense of movement and balance to flow. By merging the organic top profile with the playful, curling form suggested by the pool noodle, flow transformed into something both distinctive and dynamic.
The resolved design offers more than aesthetic appeal - it is highly functional. Flow is crafted to measure two different amounts of liquid standard drink measuring sizes of 15ml and 30 ml. A circulating line around the form serves as both a design element and a practical guide, indicating which end of flow is meant for each size.
Crafted from mirror-polished stainless steel using the ancient art of lost wax casting, Flow combines durability with elegance. This process enhances its reflective finish, making it not only functional but also visually compelling. Flow beautifully complements the rest of the collection, embodying both tradition and innovation in its design.
The top and bottom profiles of flow reveal an organic elliptical shaped opening, with each end uniquely shaped to create balance and harmony in the hand. The shape was borrowed from our coaster, settle, ensuring that ridl, settle and flow work together as a cohesive collection. The unified design language ties the products together, offering both versatility and aesthetic continuity.
