starting as a simple sketch and render turned into a real object.
One half of veil is unapologetically engineered a straight steel column, brushed and precise. the other half is left to happen. the glowing edge is irregular, rippled, almost geological, closer to ice forming or wax pooling than anything drawn on a screen.
the story of veil
One edge controlled, one edge left alone is the whole idea. It sits closer to how Gaetano Pesce treated resin than how most lighting designers treat glass: not smoothed into uniformity, but left to keep the marks of how it was made. Every panel comes out a little differently, the same way no two of Pesce's poured pieces are identical.
The wave-form shade is where veil stops being straightforward. depending on the colour chosen, it can almost disappear into its surroundings by day quiet, textural, barely there only to give off a warm glow once lit. The same object reads two completely different ways depending on the hour.
Veil is built around this idea that lights no longer have to be functional or decretive, it finds itself somewhere in the middle. A sculptural object, not mass produced but made to order and hand refined. A stainless steel body is rigid and slightly softened by the gentle curves and bends which are a transitional point. Unlike anything you will have seen before.
